Glaetzer
About Glaetzer
Ben Glaetzer’s understanding of the ancient dry-grown vineyards in the renowned Ebenezer district of the Barossa is evident in the stunning quartet of wines produced under the Glaetzer label. Exceptional fruit from a loyal group of third- and fourth-generation Barossa grape growers is the backbone of Glaetzer wines. With minimal intervention, Ben makes unique, harmonious wines which are regarded as classics – and unmistakably Barossa Valley. At every point, from the Wallace Shiraz Grenache right up to the Langton’s “Outstanding”-rated Amon-Ra Shiraz, these wines manage to balance great expressiveness and intensity with improbable elegance.
About Ben Glaetzer
Ben Glaetzer graduated in winemaking from Adelaide University, after working at Barossa Valley Estate during school and university holidays. Having worked in the Hunter Valley and travelled extensively throughout many of the world’s wine regions, Ben returned to the Barossa and joined the family company.
His ability to blend traditional winemaking techniques with a modern flair is reflected in the style of all wines under the Glaetzer label. Over the years, he’s chalked up some prestigious winemaking honours, including Behind the Label New World Winemaker of the Year, (2006), Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year (2004) and Robert M. Parker Jnr’s Wine Personality of the Year (2005). “When I look at the winemaker behind some of my favourite Australian wines, the name Ben Glaetzer seems to come up frequently,” wrote Parker. “This is a serious talent who has exploded on the wine scene with a brilliant array of wines.”
