LoosenBarry is a one-of-a-kind collaboration born from the 30-year friendship between Mosel’s Ernst Loosen and the Barry family of Clare Valley. What began as an exchange of ideas became a two-way winemaking project, with each family crafting Riesling in the other’s style—German techniques in Clare, and Aussie influence in the Mosel.
Over time, the focus has honed in on the Clare Valley, where the collaboration has taken root. Wolta Wolta is a deep, ageworthy Riesling fermented wild in foudre and aged long on lees. It’s now joined by Slate Hill, a pure, thirst-quenching Riesling from younger vines that speaks to Clare’s bright future. Fueled by camaraderie, curiosity and a shared love of Riesling, LoosenBarry is more than a partnership—it’s a friendship told through two remarkable Australian wines.

Ernst Loosen is a Mosel superstar, owner of the iconic Dr. Loosen estate and one of the world’s great authorities on Riesling. Under his watch, the 200-year-old family estate has become a beacon for discovery – pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, and making things more interesting for wine lovers the world over. He’s struck up collaborative projects in the USA, Portugal, Australia and beyond, driven by curiosity, camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence.
In Clare Valley, Tom and Sam Barry, third-generation growers, have taken the reins of the family estate founded by their grandfather, Jim Barry, the region’s first qualified winemaker. True to their roots yet always exploring, the Barry brothers bring fresh energy to one of Australia’s most iconic names. Together with Erni, they’re crafting Riesling that celebrates friendship, family legacy, and the magic of terroir.
