Willi Bründlmayer’s Parisian wife asked for a sparkling wine to rival Champagne. The man delivered. Made in the traditional method, the estate has been producing this elegant effervescent since 1989. It’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay dominant but the nooks are filled in snugly with Pinot Gris, Blanc and Grüner Veltliner to add a little zip – giggling children hiding in a cubby hole. It’s aromatically all dusty pastry and stone fruit – think peach crumble – while the palate has a firm mouth feel ripe with quince and apricot. Acid daintily delivers freshness and drive.
