This single-site Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an equal-parts marriage of Punt Road’s two best Cabernet blocks, with small injections of Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. It brings together light-footed, red-fruit notes with black olive and cassis, while French oak influence adds complexity of char, smoked charcuterie, pencil shavings and vanilla.

Notes
This Punt Road Cabernet Sauvignon is equal parts Block 11 and Block 3 from the Napoleone Vineyard. Block 11 is typically very light on its feet, aromatic and red fruited. Block 3 is sturdier, with black olive and blackcurrant. They’ve come together nicely here from a warm year. A little bit of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec completes the blend.
The wine was matured in French oak (30% new, 70% second and third use). Block 3 loves the char and tar, smoked charcuterie nuances of Nadalie oak, while Block 11 loves Taransaud’s pencil shavings and vanilla – so it’s all on display here. Thw wine came out of barrel for blending in May 2020 and was bottled in July 2020. It’s really nice to release it with some time in bottle before release, which is unheard of ’round here at the moment. – Tim Shand, Punt Road
