Ben Glaetzer does the great Aussie blend well, consistently offering a polished, contemporary take on the very popular wine style. It’s a deeply fruited affair, all cassis, blackberry and black cherry tones with impressive weight, depth and purity. It’s not a wine for the oak-shy, as the cedar and vanilla tones make their presence felt, but all that fruit just sucks it up like a greedy labrador. Finishing bold with tight, compact powdery tannin and cassis leaving the impression that this will cellar like a champion. 95 points. Dave Brooks, Halliday Wine Companion July 2023

Glaetzer’s 2021 Anaperenna is 79% Shiraz, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon; a seamless fusion making a classic Australian red. As the Roman Goddess of new beginnings, Anaperenna is a symbol for renewal and changing of the seasons. Grown from exceptional old-vine fruit in the famed Ebeneezer vineyard, the Cabernet is grown on very thick heavy black clay ‘Bay of Biscay’ on 30 to 130-year-old vines. The Shiraz was grown on 30 to 100-year-old vines. The yield was 2.5 tonnes per hectare. It was fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters and hand plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (92% French, 8% American) and matured on lees to maintain fruit profile and animation. It was bottled unfiltered, to ensure the wine’s natural characteristics ran through.
The Shiraz brings structure and strength, the Cabernet adds an herbaceous and savoury character. The combination of dark berries, complimented by fresh thyme, plums and cardamom makes for a well-rounded, lovely dark fruited and spiced wine. This wine will mature extremely well and can be cellared to 2040 and beyond.
The 2021 Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon is from the highly anticipated 2021 vintage, one typified by a cool, long, even ripening period and very little disease pressure. Yields were up on the monstrously low 2019/2020 seasons, a relief for producers. The oak stands proudly atop this wine, and the fruit is a little reductive upon opening; however, the cool flow of flavor across the tongue is sensational. This is glossy, complete and saturated in red and purple fruits. The 2021 is sitting so pert and frisky at this stage—I’m pretty sure, having just looked at the 2020 (and loved it), that this needs a little time to come together. Exceptional fruit. 15% alcohol. 94 points. Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate April 2023
Just like new velvet, this wines’ deep crimson has a bright sheen to it. Notes of fine leather goods and native bush gives the wine a lovely herbaceous lift with crushed mulberries pushing through the mid-palate. All gorgeous blackcurrant jubes and fresh tobacco leaves come together to deliver a powerful yet approachable wine that as it opens delivers more cardamom, cinnamon and Christmas pudding.
