A nutty kind of thing, with a whiff of fino and almond, mead, aniseed and old melons. It’s spicy, all the salted toasted almonds and sizzled butter, has a certain juicy sour apple tang, fine chalk dust texture, and a whole lot of umami and porcini flavour. Yes, salty, but kind of vigorous with a honey nut and lime pickle intensity. The finish is, again, dusty and chalky, and slices hard on with apricot and salted caramel. It’s a quirky wine for sure, but gee, if you like honey nut cornflakes and pickles, you’ll be all over it. It’s a madhouse, and yet, there’s a certain beauty in its craziness. I like it. 92 points.
