Notes
The hallmarks of the 2022 wine will be a lovely line of acidity and concentration of flavour due to the low crops, but especially the emergence of our new clones. The vineyard has been predominantly I10V1 for its 35 years, but new plantings are starting to mature, and the clones Mendoza, P58 and 76 are staking their claim for the soul of this wine. They bring freshness and zing, but also texture and lemon-pith qualities. All fruit is crushed then wild fermented on full solids. French puncheons, 15% new. Only 10% malolactic conversion this year due to that succulent acid profile from the new clones. The best Punt Road Chardonnay I’ve made.– Tim Shand, Punt Road
