2021 La Spinetta Barbaresco Starderi

55-year-old Nebbiolo vines from the Starderi cru site which has blue tinted calcareous marl with a small amount of clay, 230m above sea level. South-facing and sustainably farmed. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled vats for an average period of 17 days. Malolactic fermentation is done in French oak barrels, of which 20% is new and the remaining is in second passage, followed by 19 months of ageing. Finally, bottle aging went for about 7 months.

The colour is pale ruby red, with hints of ripe red fruits, cinnamon, and graophite on the nose. The wine is fresh and elegant, with herbal and spicy shades that give personality to its long finish. Tannins are soft but well present. – La Spinetta
