2022 Burn Cottage Riesling / Grüner Veltliner

65% Riesling, 35% Grüner Veltliner

Skin Contact: A portion of both varieties was destemmed, and lightly foot crushed, the berries were bathed in juice for 16 hours skin contact.

Vessels: Varieties were co-fermented and aged in a variety of vessels: stainless steel barrels, neutral oak barriques, and sandstone jar for 11 months.

We experienced a wonderful growing season commencing without spring frost concerns, and aside from a little unsettled weather in early summer, the rest of the vintage was warm and stable from there. The low rainfall and mild conditions meant a perfect slow even ripening period, with a great window of settled weather for picking. The Riesling and Gruner Veltliner grow in a slightly cooler microclimate near the top of our site, allowing these varieties time for lovely flavour development and concentration.

Layers of interest with characteristic citrus florals and hints of stonefruit along with fresh chamomile, attractive herbal notes and a touch of beeswax. There is a lovely supple texture to the palate, complemented by the fine line of acidity. A gentle phenolic drive also adds interest and complexity to this wine. – Claire Mulholland, Burn Cottage
