Glaetzer Bishop is a celebration of Barossa Shiraz that is elegantly structured with a long finish. Variety: 100% Shiraz Vineyards: Exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley.
Vine age 35—120 years old. Yield 3 tonnes per hectare. The general thought in Barossa is that 2022 offered elegance and structure combined with the solid fruit weight to make it a vintage that will last and impress. Our Shiraz definitely reflects that.
Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters. Extended maceration was employed to enable good tannin development so the wine is soft and approachable early. Matured for 16 months in a mix of 40% new oak and 60% 2— 3 year old oak hogshead barrels (100% French).
Vibrant dark cherry with purple hues. Aroma: Subtle yet generous with black cherries and dried spice. Palate: This is a full volume year for Bishop. The aromas are layered with so many fruits they are too numerous to name here. The usual smooth and supple texture shares flavours of black cherry, every imaginable berry, olive and black pepper. Brightness and balancing tannin offer a long finish and significant age ability. Peak Drinking: Great drinking now but this wine will also benefit from up to 10 – 15 years of careful cellaring.
