2022 Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Sechets

Kimmeridgian. Left bank. East/South-east exposure. Distinctive hard limestone within a clay base, the soil is shallow, whitish in colour and mostly infertile. The vineyard is sunny and has good air circulation. A gentle slope. ​Séchets is different from the other climats in the Vaillons valley because it has more marl characteristics. Year planted: 1971

Its aromatic expression, complexity and precise minerality make this typical Chablis Premier Cru perfect for ageing. Ageing: 5 to 15 years

No added yeasts, long fermentation using indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation.Matured for 20 to 24 months only in stainless steel tanks with as little intervention as possible. Moderate cold stabilisation. Fined with bentonite if necessary. Lightly filtered once just before bottling.

Serve at between 12 and 14°C. Swirl the glass before tasting to allow the wine to breathe. This wine has aromas of grapefruit, stone and flowers. It is a tight, dense wine of outstanding purity and remarkable minerality. It is enhanced by notes of white-fleshed fruit. – Guillaume Gicqueau-Michel

Hmm – this has beautiful dimensions of aroma and is more demonstrative than the MdT today – great. Also wow in the mouth – intense but wide-screen in flavour. The citrus intense here but not hard. Also to wait for but what a combination of intensity and clarity! Bravo! Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
