The 2022 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru comes from two parcels on the north-facing part of the climat, 60- and 70-year- old vines. It has a poised and focused bouquet with hints of white peach and praline infusing the minerally scents. Very composed and understated at first before gaining more intensity. The palate is well-balanced with tangy marmalade and quince, lovely depth and cohesion, equidistant between classicism and the generous, almost tropical nature of the 2022 vintage. Notes

Kimmeridgian. North-facing slopes. White clay and limestone soil with some chalk covers the steepest parts, while the western area is made up of browner clay soils. Years planted: 1950 / 1960 / 1970

Several soil types coexist in this climat. The Domaine’s parcel is in the middle of the middle of the valley and faces north. Ageing: 10 years or more.

No added yeasts, long fermentation using indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation.Matured for 18 to 20 months only in stainless steel tanks with as little intervention as possible. Moderate cold stabilisation. Fined with bentonite if necessary. Lightly filtered once just before bottling.

Serve at between 12 and 14°C. Swirl the glass before tasting to allow the wine to breathe. Full and round, Grand Cru Vaudésir releases notes of rhubarb and acacia blossom. Fine and elegant on the palate with pronounced buttery and brioche notes suggesting a hint of coconut.

A vague whiff of the exotic lurks in the background of the aroma of dried orange peel, lemon confit, mineral reduction and an interesting hint of star anise. There is both excellent volume and intensity yet a similar degree of refinement to the equally stony and impressively long finish where an even more prominent bitter lemon character is present. This comes from the southern cooler side of Vaudésir, meaning that it is usually harvested rather late. Still, this is all vim and vigor. Green pears, yellow raspberries and light leafiness transfer from the nose to the citrus-packed palate.
