A very cool and dangerously fresh dry furmint with a terrific stony minerality on the sleek and focused palate. A very salty and precise finish that takes your breath away. There is fruit, but the crisp pear and quince notes are only just beginning to open up. A joint venture between Moric (Roland Velich) and Gergo Filep. 100% Furmint. Dry white quality wine from Tokaji Region, Hungary. Hand harvested from the 0.36ha Holdvölgy/Középhegy vineyard which is situated in the village of Mád. 100% south facing, vines planted between 1980-1985 with tiny 10Hl production. Base rock of Rhyolithe.
Organic cultivation not certified; hand harvested, whole bunch pressing. Spontaneous fermentation and aging in oak barrels, no filtration.
Very distinct white and yellow fruit layers, underlaid with fresh herbal as well darker, almost smoky minerality. The palate is very elegant, young, intense but full of finesse, long and completed with an excellent acidity. – Roland Velich, Moric
Chartreuse yellow with silver sheen. Delicate nuances of orange blossom, fine honey notes, discreet hints of melon and beeswax, inviting. Full-bodied, a touch nutty, fine nuances of white stone fruit, a refined acidity, light-footed, a hint of biscuits, reductive volcanic nuances, a mineral finish, very long-lasting, juicy. 94 points.
