2023 G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso

Blend of local red varieties, including Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and the rare heirloom Freisa, Albarossa, Chatus and Slarina. Fruit was harvested from a range of vineyards in the Langhe region, including the villages of Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Clavesana, Farigliano, Sinio and Serralunga d’Alba. The 2023 blend encompasses Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and smaller contributions of Freisa, Albarossa, Slarina, Chatus and various old vines.

We harvested the wine grapes for our Langhe DOC Rosso from September 4th till October 18th, according to the ripening of each variety. Grapes were handpicked and sorted manually three times: directly on the vine, as whole clusters on the sorting tables and lastly as single berries after destemming. Each block fermented on its own for an average of 20 days, in vertical vats, with gentle punch-downs and pump-overs at a free temperature below 30°C. The alcoholic fermentation was followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for approximately 4 to 6 months, mainly in stainless steel.

The wine is a delicate ruby red color. The nose has fragrant aromas of red fruits, sweet spices, hintes of violet and rosehip. The palage is energetic, lively and contoured by silky tannins. It’s a fun wine to drink and pair with all foods.
