Just bottled, the 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is terrific. A blend of La Spinetta’s four sites (Starderi, Valeriano, Gallina, Campé) the Langhe Nebbiolo is an excellent introduction to the Spinetta range. Notes
This wine is a blend from Spinetta’s 3 Barbaresco vineyards in Neive. The first vintage was in 2004. The vineyard exposure is south-west, at an area of 16 acres and an altitiude of 230m above sea level. The soil type is blue tinted calcareous marl, characterised by small percentages of clay.
Maceration and alcoholic ferentation in temperature-controlled vats for an average period of 15 days. Malolactic fermentation done in used French oak barrels, followed by 12 months of aging. Finally, bottle aging for approximately 8 months.
The wine is bright ruby red in colour with a bouquet of blueberry jam, rose and white pepper. It is fresh and elegant, with delicate floral and spicy notes. Tannins are velvety and well present and the finish is precise and persistent. – La Spinetta
