2024 Chalmers Rosato

100% Aglianico, a variety that originates from Campania and a red variety that makes excellent rose styles.  For us the Chalmers Rosato is not just about making a pink wine, but making a wine that is dry, savoury, detailed and can sit comfortably on the dinner table.

The Aglianico for this wine is grown on the Top Block of our Heathcote Vineyard which shows elegance, restraint, lift and a fine firm structure.  Wild fermented in old French oak barrels allowing the wine to relax and take on some savoury notes, with aromas of strawberry leaf, blood orange, cassia, and enoki mushroom, its persistent, and detailed, a wine that we’ve particularly fond of.

Grown on basalt, shale, sandstone, dolerite, quartz and limestone soils. Harvested on 12 March, 2024. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, wild ferment, old barriques. 7 months on fine lees, partial malo. Vegan friendly, contains sulphites.

Orange zest, saffron, watermelon and salted plus. Dry.

Rosé made with 100% Aglianico, wild fermented in old oak. It’s a citrussy rose with stones, watermelon, citrus zest and saltbush characters driving through to a focussed, well-defined finish. This rosé is dry, gently textural,  energetic and riven with citrus notes. The dining table beckons. 91 points. Campbell Mattinson, The Winefront July 2025
