2022 Pittnauer Dogma Rosé

100% Blaufränkisch from the Ungerberg vineyard, 12 hours skin contact, fermented & matured in clay Amphora for 8 months with no added sulfites. Committed to the dogma of natural winemaking.

And at the same time an attempt to give character to a wine style that generally doesn’t have too much of it. For our pink version of Dogma, we do everything we can to reveal the essence of early-pressed red grapes. This naturally starts with the raw material.

This is not a by-product of red wine production, but comes from biodynamically managed vineyards, with the sole aim of producing a rosé that knows how to tell stories: about a lively and healthy ecosystem, strong vines, an active life in the soil and a biodiverse coexistence above the Earth; of authenticity, individuality and a late harvest of perfectly ripe grapes; and of a vinification that dispenses with technical sophistication, dramaturgical predictability, illusions and special effects, filters, temperature control and SO₂ and instead leaves the first and last word to the grapes and the vintage.

In 2022 it was rather dry until late summer, before a few days of rain at the end of August caused the workload to skyrocket for a short time, but at the same time also revitalized the vines and grapes for the coming weeks of harvesting.

Raspberries, red apples, oranges and a delicate herbal note – but everything is in flux and has the right to change over time. From a sensory point of view, the completely non-dogmatic Dogma is aromatically broad, radiates an almost Mediterranean warmth and yet remains structured and compact. The texture is delicate and substantial, while a never intrusive but noticeable acid structure puts pressure on the palate. The finish is supple, red-fruity and lasting. – Gerhard & Brigitte Pittnauer
