Here’s another chance to help yourselves to some of the world’s best wines – while also helping your favourite restaurants to stay healthy in what has been a deeply challenging time for the hospitality industry.

In this, the fourth in our series of restaurant collaborations, we team up with one of the most flamboyantly fun hosts on the Melbourne hospo scene at Pizza Meine Liebe.

As well as offering special six-pack pricing to you, we’re handing 20% of the proceeds from sales of this product back to the restaurant.

CellarHand was founded by a sommelier and is a business largely built on partnerships in Australia’s world-class restaurant scene. We’re immensely proud of these friendships – honoured, in fact to be part of the hospitality ecosystem – which makes it devastating to witness the hardships suffered by this cornerstone of Australian culture.

So we want to celebrate and support these champions.

CellarHand has been working with this crew for the best part of 15 years, first through their Northcote institution Joe’s Shoe Store and, more recently, Uncle Joe’s Wine Bar in East Brunswick.

From early 2020 they added Pizza Meine Liebe to the mix and are now slinging delicious pizza with their own blend of fun and flamboyance.

We’ve put together this six-pack of pizza-pairing pearlers with them – a real good-time-in-a-glass affair. Enjoy it!

The Wines

2019 Chalmers Vermentino $28

While this has plenty of citrus flavours with a moreish lemon saline acid line, it’s really textural, too and just glides across the palate. Stone fruit and ginger spice also add to its appeal.

92 points. Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2021

2018 Luigi Baudana Dragon Bianco $43

Fragrant wine of great interest, vivacity and fruitiness. Scents of frangipani, candied citrus, fresh apple juice, bath salts. Palate is sweet-ish, fruity as can be, a touch sweet but cut nicely with lemony acidity, indeed, almost Warhead Lolly tang here. It’s a little wild and savoury underneath that, which keeps things interesting. I like this. Exotic.

93 points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

2018 Scorpo Bestia Pinot Grigio Tradizionale $43

Italian-style skin-contact wine inspired by Paul Scorpo’s forebears. Textural, savoury expression with pear and stone fruit nuances complicated by herbal and orange peel notes, from one of the Mornington Peninsula’s finest Pinot Gris growers

2018 Heartland ‘Foreign Correspondent’ Dolcetto Lagrein $26

2018 Heartland Foreign Correspondent Dolcetto & Lagrein I looked at the label and it reminded me of my younger cub-reporter self. This comes out of Langhorne Creek. Well. It’s a very good drink. You don’t have to pay the big bucks. Red licorice, black cherries, drifts of aromatic dried herbs. Fresh and juicy in the best of ways. A gentle tether of tannin; just enough. Good stuff. Thumbs up.

91 points. James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2020

2019 G.D. Vajra Dolcetto d’Alba $40

From one of Piedmont’s best producers comes a classic medium-bodied red of violets, blue and purple fruit, spice and liquorice

2016 La Spinetta Il Nero di Casanova Sangiovese $40

This juicy, savoury Sangiovese is brimming with classic sour cherry, dried rose and terracotta notes. It comes from Tuscany’s Terre di Pisa Sangiovese DOC, with fruit from the Casanova vineyard in Terricciola and the Sezzana site in Casciana Terme.
