First things first: it’s flavoursome. It tastes of pears and honey, roasted spices and something floral, like frangipani. That would be enough in itself, but it also feels characterful; there’s a waxiness to the texture, and a tautness, along with whispers of crushed fennel and brine. Fiano is a vine variety this visionary grape-growing family first imported into Australia in 2002 and made a first wine from back in 2005. The vines grow on the Chalmers Heathcote vineyard’s red Cambrian soils at an elevation of 150-170m. Hand picked, whole bunch pressed wild ferment, no acid adds 10 months on lees in chestnut botte & stainless steel vegan friendly, contains sulphites. Generous & balanced with autumn spice, wood sorrel pine needle, almond, driven.
