In this very steep vineyard grows one of the most elegant and perfumed white wines in the world. The stony, shallow blue slate soil gives the wine a delicate and fresh acidity and a unique elegance. In their youth, the wines of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr are the most charming of our estate, with the fragrance of white peach and green apple. It would be fair to say that this 2022 Sonnenuhr follows the incredible trajectory that Erni and the team have been on with the GG’s from this iconic site over the last decade or so. Year in, year out, it is always the prettiest of Erni’s GG’s on release. We showed this wine as a pre-release at our recent 25^th Anniversary roadshow tastings and safe to say there wasn’t a drop left by the end of the week and we have been chomping at the bit for the wine to arrive so we can offer it out and about.

As usual, full of verve and vigour and the typical ‘Sonnenuhr’ elegance, it is perhaps a little more compact at this stage of its life than in previous vintages and that makes it all the more approachable as it is now, but the inner density and fine, lacy fruit means as always if you can keep your hands off this as a young wine you’ll be well rewarded by sticking a few away in the cellar.
