2023 Punt Road Pinot Gris

At the Punt Road winery in Coldstream, we aim to produce wines that reflect the heritage of our vineyard, and the creative energy of the Yarra Valley. We select parcels of fruit from the Napoleone Vineyard that stand out for freshness and balance. We practice wild fermentation, skin contact and barrel maturation to produce a fresh but savoury pinot gris, with notes of nashi pear and cirrus.

Our pinot gris was sourced from two blocks of D1V7 at the Napoleone Vineyard. We harvested earlier than usual, at around 11.9 baume, due to ideal ripening conditions. To extract maximum texture and flavour, we pressed the grapes hard. The wine was naturally fermented in old oak puncheons, with 20% being fermented in tanks to preserve the aroma. Regular stirring of the lees enhanced the wine’s complexity and mouthfeel. We bottled the wine early to maintain freshness. – Jarrod Johnson, Punt Road
