2020 Velich ‘Tó’ (Chardonnay / Sauvignon Blanc / Welschriesling)

An unusual but truly compelling blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc & Welshriesling.

‘Tó’ translates as ‘Lake’ in Hungarian and this is Heinz’ homage to the magnificent and important Lake Neusiedl. Grown on deep sand & gravel soils, the three varieties are at home in the Seewinkel and come together here to make a wine that truly reflects the environment in which the grapes are grown.

Spontaneous ferment, raised in larger format old wood with extended time on lees, and no additions with the exception of a small amount of sulphur at bottling. A truly harmonious blend where there is a distinct saltiness to the wine that is often attributed to the Chardonnay, with a fresh, herbal element coming from the Sauvignon and the Welshriesling adding a subtle spiciness to the nose. Aromatic to a degree but a wine that weaves between richness and freshness with ease. A distinct wine of place that is incredibly moreish and a thrill to watch unfurl and evolve once splashed into your glass. – Heinz Velich

Light greenish yellow, silver reflections. Ripe yellow tropical fruit, hints of blossom honey, roasted pineapple, ripe peach.
