Hand picked from a single block of 777 from the Napoleone vineyard. Some whole bunches. A light, bright garnet. An instantly appealing bouquet of fresh summer berries, a little briar, white pepper and light rose petal scents. This delivers on the light- to medium-bodied palate, too. Notes
2024 was two vintages in one: incredibly wet in December and January, and spectacularly warm and dry in February. The wet growing season translated into good soil moisture and lush, healthy vine canopies. Careful management by our dedicated vineyard crew set the vines up to speed through ripening when the sun finally came out. The wines produced show great purity of fruit, high natural acidity and attractive perfume.
This wine is made from multiple blocks and multiple clones of Pinot Noir from the Napoleone Vineyard. The soil type is grey loam on clay base. MV6, 777 & 115 clones.
30% whole bunch fermented; 70% whole berry, fermented with native yeasts. Gently pumped over daily and pressed early to tank and a small amount of old French oak, in order maximise freshness. Bottled young with minimal SO2 added.
This is all about quality and drinkability: black cherries, strawberry and rhubarb. Juicy and fruit-forward with a subtle savouriness. – Jarrod Johnson, Airlie Bank
