2023 Groiss Grüner Veltliner

Here´s a short update about our vintage 2023 in Austria: The interesting thing about our job is that no year is the same and every year we have to decide individually how we work our vineyards, when we pick and how we process our grapes. 2023 was a very unusual vintage for us: we had a fairly late bud break and therefore a late flowering – so we expected a slightly later harvest than in previous years – but then we were blessed with a beautiful summer and also with sufficient rainfalls, so that our grapes developed wonderfully and we started harvesting like normal at the end of September. However, the harvest this year was quite unusual: there were cool but sunny days throughout the harvest period, which lasts about four weeks in our winery. Because of the perfect weather, we had healthy grapes like never before – they all looked photoshopped because they were perfect. Because of this perfect health we had no stress when picking and were therefore able to pick each plot at perfect ripeness – so this year we are blessed with a beautiful, crystal clear fruit that is very brilliant and shiny – as well as really ripe grape aromas in the wines. Although we had a nice level of ripeness, all entry-level wines are between 12 and 12.5% ​​alcohol content – so very inviting to drink and they show a nice freshness even if the acidity is not too high – I think these are wines, that are really consumer-friendly and wines that invite you to drink more than one bottle 😉 – Ingrid Groiss
