2020 is going to go down as a brilliant year in WA – widespread good, like 2018 – but everyone will remember the firm and plentiful tannins and the fleshy fruit. These go hand in hand in almost every vineyard in the state, and it is so, here. This is very grownup. It has the slick and gloss of beautifully ripe fruit, but it also has the blood, gravel and rust that underpins all reds grown in Frankland River. While this has resolutely earned its ‘Syrah’ moniker, it has enough savoury grunt and brooding hutzpah to accurately reflect the region, too. Bravo.
